Planning your Surgery
In your initial consultation, we will evaluate your health, determine the extent of fat deposits in your abdominal region, determine whether you have a split in your muscles and carefully assess your skin tone. You must tell us if you smoke and if you’re taking any medications, vitamins or other drugs.
Try to be frank in discussing your expectations with us and we’ll be equally frank with you in describing your alternatives and the risks and limitations of each.
Costs for this procedure can be provided by the Practice Manager.
Preparing for Surgery
We’ll give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications.
If you do smoke, plan to quit at least four weeks before your surgery and don’t resume for at least four weeks after your surgery. Avoid overexposure to the sun beforehand – especially to your abdomen – and don’t go on a stringent diet, as both can inhibit your ability to heal. If you develop a cold or infection of any kind, your surgery will be postponed. It is not worth the risk.
You must arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and to help you out at home for a week or so after you leave the hospital.
