Planning your Surgery
In your initial consultation, it’s important to discuss your expectations frankly with me. Every patient, and every surgeon, has a different view of what is a desirable size and shape for breasts. My aim is guide you in what is possible and will give you the best outcome.
I will examine and measure your breasts, and we will photograph them for reference during surgery and afterwards. We will discuss the variables that may affect the procedure, such as your age, the size and shape of your breasts, and the condition of your skin. We’ll also discuss where the nipple and areola will be positioned, as they will be elevated during the procedure.
I will show you before and after photographs of the type of results you can expect under my care.
You may want your breasts to be enlarged as well as have the droopiness corrected. Enlarging droopy breasts with implants often needs a combined breast lift procedure. Small droopy breasts are merely turned into larger droopy breasts if only implants are added. The reason your breasts droop, is because they can/could not hold up the volume. They will not be able to hold up an implant either, unless the skin envelope is tailored.
During the second consultation, we will discuss the procedure in detail, further explaining all the risks and limitations. You’ll also be given the telephone numbers of a couple of previous patients that you can call and questions, about their surgical experience first hand.
Preparing for Surgery
If you are 40 and over you will be expected to have a mammogram (breast x-ray) before surgery. You will also get specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, stopping smoking, and taking/avoiding certain vitamins and medications that may affect your risk of bleeding or clotting. While making preparations, you will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery and to help you out for a few days afterwards at home.
The Hospital
The surgery will be performed at the Bristol Nuffield Hospital. You will be an inpatient, and can expect to be in hospital for one night after the surgery, depending on your recovery from the operation.
