During the first week, you will be given salt water sachets, cotton wool and antibiotic ointment. You will need to gently clean your nose inside three times a day, using the salt water and cotton wool. You will then apply the ointment to the inside of your nose. This helps stop the crusting develop inside your nose. The splint will be taken off at the one week follow up visit.
Patience, while your nose settles into its final shape and waiting for the swelling to go, is the hardest part of this operation. Patients need to be emotionally resilient during this time as the final result may not be visible up until a year post op.
